Cours 101, Unité 3, Leçon 4

Quand et où ?

Instructions : Décrivez où iront six personnes et à quelle heure : une femme, un homme, une fille, un garçon, vous et moi. Ex. : L'homme va au restaurant à huit heures.

Rocío soumission: Evaluation moyenne:
The woman was outside the house, in the garden, she was looking at the sky, wondering whether she would see the stars tonight. This was something that she loved. The man was walking down the street, he was passing by the house of the woman, but when he saw her, he stopped to ask her whether she was ok, because it is not very common to see a woman looking at the sky in the middle of the garden, being a cloudy day as it was. The girl was playing football at seven o'clock in the morning, she loved it, but as it was summer, it was really hot in the afternoon, so she had to play either early in the morning or late at night, and she preferred to wake up early. Her brother, however, was still sleeping in his bedroom, the girl could hear him snore when she got out of the house at half past six. Right now you're reading this exercise (aren't you? :P) and maybe you're thinking that this was quite a weird text, but you're the one to tell me whether you liked it :P I am going to finish the book I'm reading in 20 minutes.

Great writing as usual Rocio!  "The woman was outside the house in the garden.  She was looking at the sky, wondering whether she would see the stars tonight."  "The man was walking down the street, AND AS he was passing by the WOMAN'S HOUSE, he saw her AND stopped to ask her if/whether she was ok." Here, I begin a new sentence because it is getting a bit long.  "AFTER ALL, it is not very common to see a woman looking at the sky in the middle of the/a garden, being the/a cloudy day as/that it was.  The girl was playing football at seven o'clock in the morning AND she loved it, BECAUSE it was summer AND really hot in the afternoon.  She had to play early in the morning or late at night, BUT she preferred to wake up early.  Her brother, however, was still sleeping in his bedroom, WHILE the girl could hear him snore when she got out of the house at half past six.  I like the writing Rocio, but are these two different women, or the same?  Continue!

The woman was outside the house, in the garden. She was looking at the sky, wondering whether she would see the stars tonight. Doing this was something that she loved. A man was walking down the street, he was passing by the woman's house, but when he saw her, he stopped to ask her if she was ok, because it is not very common to see a woman looking at the sky from the middle of the garden, being a cloudy day as it was. The girl was playing football at seven o'clock in the morning, she loved it, but as it was summer, it was really hot in the afternoon, so she had to play either early in the morning or late at night and she preferred to wake up early. Her brother, however, was still sleeping in his bedroom, the girl could hear him snore when she got out of the house at half past six. The woman was outside the house, in the garden, she was looking at the sky, wondering whether she would see the stars tonight. This was something that she loved [to do/doing]. The man was walking down the street, he was passing by the house of the woman, but when he saw her, he stopped to ask her whether she was ok, because it is not very common to see a woman looking at the sky in the middle of the garden, [it] being a cloudy day as it was. The girl was playing football at seven o'clock in the morning, she loved it, but as it was summer, it was really hot in the afternoon, so she had to play either early in the morning or late at night, and she preferred to wake up early (A conclusion is missing: e.g. 'so she played in the afternoon'). Her brother, however, was still sleeping in his bedroom[;] the girl could hear him [snoring] when she got out of the house at half past six. Right now you're reading this exercise (aren't you? :P) and maybe you're thinking that this was quite a weird text, but [it's up to you] to tell me whether you liked it :P I am going to finish the book I'm reading in 20 minutes.

You have improved considerably with long sentences, and these are beautiful.

If what is to the right of the comma could be a sentence all by itself, that is when a semicolon is required.
