I could not speak or understand English from listening (to it). I started to improve my English since the beginning of the March.

A native English speaker would say ... I started to study to improve my English at the beginning of last March Very well done. I could not understand what you said right after speak or understand... Everything else was good ( I have a brother named Martin-now I know how to say his name in Polish!) Keep studying, you are doing well.

Or you can say "I have been improving my English since the beginning of March." - this is a continuing process.
